SSB Stands for Service Selection Board that conducts interview process for the recruitment of defense personnel into the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian AirForce, and Officers Training Academies. SSB was set up by the Ministry of Defense to conducts evaluation tests for recruitment purposes for Indian Defense Forces. This is the second stage for any defense examination and a crucial one as well. In this article, we will discuss SSB Interview 2023, NDA 1 & 2, CDSE, AFCAT, SSB Registration & Procedure, etc.
SSB Interview Round Overview
The SSB interview is organized to induct candidates into the defense forces who cleared the following defense examination-
- National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA Exam)
- Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)
- Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)
The SSB Interview is a two-stage process- stage I and stage II which is conducted for 4 or 5 days and will include 900 marks.
It includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT).
It includes Group Testing Officer Tasks, Interviews, Psychology Tests, and the Conference.
Five Days SSB Selection Process
The SSB Interview process is a long process where the candidate is evaluated based on performance. The candidate is tested under the various category of physical, psychological, and intrapersonal levels. The following are the selection process for SSB-
Day 0 Reporting Day
This is the arrival day of the candidates at the interview center. Here, the candidates have to report on the venue along with the documentation. Further, the verification of the documents will be done and the candidate will be provided with Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) Forms. The candidate has to fill the form which will be evaluated by a psychologist of the board.
Day 1 Screening
On the second day of the SSB interview, the candidates are sent through a screening process which consists of two tests. The following are the two tests that the screening process includes-
Intelligence Test: This test consist of verbal and non-verbal questions and multiple-choice questions will be provided and for each question, 30 seconds will be the time limit.
Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP & DT): here, the candidates will be shown a picture for 30 seconds, and after that candidates will be provided with some time to construct a story. Later the candidates will have to participate in the Group discussion session.
Day 2 Psychology Tests
Day 2 consists of psychological tests and consist of the following tests-
Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): In this test, the candidates will be shown back-to-back eleven pictures with a 4-minute gap. The candidate has to write a short story based on the picture. The twelfth slide will be blank where a candidate will write a story of their own choice.
Word Association Test (WAT): In this test, the candidates will be shown 60 words back to back, and the candidates have to write the first thought that comes to their mind.
Situation Reaction Test (SRT): In this test, the candidates will be provided with 60 situations and the candidates have to write a response based on the situation.
Self Description Test (SD): In this test, the candidates have to write views about their parents, themselves, and teachers, etc. within 15 minutes.
Day 3 & 4 Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO Tasks)
The candidates will be tested using various indoor and outdoor activities. The following are the tasks that the candidates have to go through-
Group Discussion: The candidates will be divided into various groups and a topic will be provided to the group of candidates. The discussion will be observed by the group task officer and scored accordingly.
Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise): here, the candidates will be provided with a real-life situation and the candidate has to decide on a plan of action.
Progressive Group Tasks (PGT): In this round, the group of the candidate will overcome a few obstacles with the help of supporting materials like rope, plank, wood log, etc.
Half Group Tasks: This round is almost similar to PGT but the number of group members will be reduced to half and candidates will be given more chances to show their potential.
Individual Obstacles: In this round, the candidate will attempt 10 obstacles individually.
Group Obstacles Race or Snake Race: In this round, all group members will go through a competition with other groups. Candidates will go through certain obstacles with the help of a rope.
Command Task: In this task, the aspirant will be a commander and he will be required to cross obstacles through few subordinates.
Lecturette: In this round, the candidate will have to give a lecture for three minutes on a topic chosen by them.
Final Group Task: This test is also the same as PGT and candidates will get the chance to show their potential.
Day 5 Conference
The last and the final day of the SSB interview consists of a conference session where the candidates have to give a face-to-face interview to the board members which consists of the Board of Examiners President, Deputy President, all the GTOs, all the psychologists & Technical Officer.
After the interview, the results will be declared within an hour or so. The selected candidates will further have to go through a medical test which could take another 4-5 days and then the final merit list of selected candidates is prepared.
Documents needed for SSB Interview 2023
The candidates are required to attend the SSB Interview with necessary documents which will be returned to the candidates once the verification is over. The following are the document needed for SSB Interview-
- 10+2 or Equivalent Examination Mark Sheet & Passing Certificate
- Ten passport size photographs
- Aadhaar Card
- Call Letter
