The institute provides full-time PhD programs in many departments, including Basic Sciences, Earth, Ocean, and Climate Science, Electrical Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management, Infrastructure, Mechanical Sciences, Minerals, Metallurgical, and Material Engineering. Applicants can apply for admission to the PhD program of the VNIT, Nagpur, based on Institute Scholar, Sponsored Scholar and Project Scholar qualifications. The minimum requirement for admission to the program is a post-graduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 60% marks.

Applying for PhD through Engineering

  • An MTech/ME degree with a minimum of 60% or 6.5 CGPA along with a valid GATE score would be a great choice.

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology with 70% or 7.5 CGPA plus a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR score is required.

·       A minimum of 60% or 6.5 CGPA is required for the Master’s degree.

·       It is mandatory for the candidate to have a valid GATE score or to achieve the rank of JRF in the UGC/CSIR-NET.

Applying for PhD through the Geosciences

· You must have a minimum of 60% or 6.5 CGPA in Geology/Geophysics/Earth science to apply.

·       A minimum percentage of 55% in your B.Sc. or equivalent degree.

·       Upon passing all other examinations, your score must be at least 60%. 10% relaxation is there for the 10th and 12th.

Integrated Admissions to the program of PhD at VNIT, Nagpur

  • The VNIT, Nagpur, offers a five-year, five-specialization M.Sc. and PhD program, namely, Chemistry, Ocean Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Geology. Through the JAM entrance examination, students are admitted to the program. Once the student completes the fourth semester successfully, they will be eligible for direct admission to the PhD program. They keep a certain minimum grade point average set by the institute.

Eligibility criteria for PhD programs at VNIT, Nagpur

  • In addition to uploading their photographs, signatures, and other documents, candidates can log in and complete their examination forms.
  • Apply for an application online and pay with an electronic payment method. Application fees for female students (all categories), SC/ST/PWD students are INR 750 (one test paper) and INR 1050 (two test papers).
